About Archer Institute of Memorial

Located on Nelson Road in Lake Charles, Archer Institute of Memorial is a 42-bed behavioral health hospital operated under the Lake Charles Memorial Health System, serving both adolescents and adults across southwest Louisiana. The 32,000-square-foot facility maintains separate adult and adolescent units to provide age-appropriate environments and round-the-clock inpatient care. Named in honor of Dr. Dale Archer, a psychiatrist and mental health leader in the region, the institute was established to address the growing demand for comprehensive behavioral health treatment beyond what a single emergency room visit can provide.

The clinical team includes board-certified psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, case managers, activity therapists, dietitians, and occupational therapists, all specializing in behavioral health. Inpatient services address a range of conditions including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, severe depression, disruptive behaviors, and substance detoxification. The facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, though visitors and prospective patients are encouraged to call ahead to confirm current hours and availability.

Behavioral health care at this location is designed to treat and support individuals experiencing mental health and substance abuse challenges that require sustained, structured intervention rather than emergency-only response. For acute mental health crises or emergencies, the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Emergency Room on Oak Park Boulevard and the national mental health hotline at 988 remain available resources.
