Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors
About Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors
Established in 1999, the Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors serves as the official regulatory body overseeing licensed home inspectors across Louisiana, with its administrative offices located in Baton Rouge. The board is structured with one member representing each congressional district, along with an at-large member appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate — a composition designed to ensure statewide representation in the oversight of the home inspection profession.
For consumers, real estate professionals, and licensed inspectors throughout the state — including those conducting inspections in the Lake Charles area and across Southwest Louisiana — the board maintains a central hub of laws, rules, forms, and frequently asked questions. It also provides a formal process for filing complaints when violations of the Louisiana Home Inspectors Licensing Laws or the board's Professional and Occupational Standards are suspected.
Licensed inspectors are required to complete at least 20 hours of continuing education per licensing period as a condition of renewal, while first-year inspectors renewing for the first time must complete at least 30 hours. No more than 10 hours of continuing education credit may be carried forward into the following year. These requirements reflect the board's role in maintaining consistent professional standards across the home inspection industry in Louisiana.
